Personal Experiences with Rape Culture

NOBODY DESERVES TO BE RAPED. EVER.

Not bigots who spread misinformation about rape, no matter how much power they have.

Not prisoners, regardless of how brutal their prior actions may have been. (We all know how fucked the “justice” system is, too.)

Not even rapists. I’ve thought about it a lot, and I would not wish the pain I went through even on the people who inflicted it on me (at least one of them I know to be a survivor of abuse, which does not justify their actions, but we all know that shit can be cyclical).

As a friend of mine just thoughtfully pointed out, that kind of language supports rape culture. Supports the idea that there are Those Who Deserve It and Those Who Don’t, that there is an Ideal Rape Victim archetype out there somewhere. 

It does all survivors a disservice.

I do not think that bigots, rape culture enablers/rape apologists, or rapists should escape the consequences of their actions.

But those consequences should not include perpetuating a deadly cycle.
